CBS Westland Row Secondary School is situated in the inner city area of south Dublin. Located within seconds of Pearse Street train station, it is accessible to local students and commuters alike.  Although the entrance to the school is situated on Cumberland Street, running parallel to Westland Row, the school has, since it opened in 1844, been coined Westland Row or ‘The Row’.

The school was initially founded as an all-boys primary and secondary school by the Christian Brothers (1964), but opened its doors to female students in 1988. As the school operates under the Edmund Rice Schools Trust (ERST) founded in 2008, it follows the Educational and Religious philosophy of Edmund Rice. The school closely follows the ERST Charter.

The 5 key elements of the ERST charter are as follows;

  1. Nurturing Faith Christian Spirituality and Gospel Based Values
  2. Promoting Partnership In the School Community.
  3. Excelling in teaching and learning
  4. Creating a caring school community
  5. Inspiring transformational leadership [1]
