Westland Row is part of the DEIS initiative that was introduced in the education system in Ireland in 2005. DEIS aims to focus ”addressing and prioritising the educational needs of children and young people from disadvantaged communities, from pre-school through second-level education (3 to 18 years).”[18]

The Education Unit, which preceded the DEIS initiative, is a prominent attribute in The Row, and is located next door to the school. It has been part of CBS Westland Row since it was set up in 1999. The Unit facilitates students who struggle in the mainstream classroom. The trained staff accommodates students with a range of learning difficulties and behavioural difficulties. Though the Unit hosts separate classes from the main school, the school often coincides with Unit in order to maintain integration within the school.
